Our Story
The Journey from Spotlight to Workshop
Quiet-moor began in a converted barn outside Halifax in 2019. Three friends, each having spent decades in media and entertainment, found themselves drawn to the same unlikely pursuit: working with their hands.
There was no grand plan. Just three people, tired of speaking into microphones, discovering the particular satisfaction of shaping raw materials into useful, beautiful things. They began teaching others, first informally, then with growing intention.
From Public to Personal
Our founding members spent collective decades in front of cameras and audiences. A morning show host with twenty years of live television. A music journalist who interviewed hundreds of artists. A documentary filmmaker whose work reached millions.
Each reached a point where the constant performance felt hollow. They sought something that did not require explanation or approval. Something that existed simply because it was made.
Craft provided that refuge. And sharing it with others became a new kind of meaningful work.
Our Values
Everything we do springs from a few core beliefs about craft, learning, and human connection.
Presence Over Perfection
We value the process of making as much as the finished piece. Every workshop emphasizes attention and care over flawless outcomes.
Story in Every Stitch
Handmade objects carry meaning that manufactured goods cannot. We teach participants to embed their own stories in what they create.
Small by Design
Our workshops remain intentionally intimate. Genuine learning happens through individual attention and unhurried exploration.
The Collective Today
What started with three founders has grown into a network of twelve artisan instructors, each with their own story of transition from public life to craft practice. Our studios now span four locations across Canada, from the original Halifax barn to spaces in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.
We have welcomed over two thousand participants since our founding. Some come once, discovering a weekend of peace. Others return repeatedly, building skills and relationships that extend far beyond the workshop walls.
Our alumni include corporate executives seeking respite, artists exploring new mediums, and curious individuals who simply wanted to make something with their hands. What unites them is the willingness to slow down and pay attention.
"The workshop gave me something I didn't know I was missing. Permission to be present without producing content."
As someone who spent thirty years in broadcast, I understand what these instructors have discovered. There is profound satisfaction in work that speaks for itself, without commentary or analysis. Quiet-moor offers that rare gift.

Looking Forward
We have no plans for rapid expansion. Growth, when it comes, will be organic and thoughtful. Our focus remains on depth rather than scale, on quality of experience rather than quantity of participants.
New workshop themes emerge from instructor passions and participant requests. Upcoming offerings include traditional bookbinding, natural perfumery, and instrument repair. Each addition must meet our standard: can this be taught in a way that honors both the craft and the learner?
The world may accelerate, but our workshops will not. There is too much value in the slower way.
